"Crafting a winning litigation strategy is akin to putting a puzzle together. You need to look at all the pieces, see how they fit, and connect them in a way that results in a clear, compelling picture."
Focusing his practice on commercial litigation and related business disputes, Fernando Kirkman builds his effective written and oral advocacy upon a foundation of impressive problem-solving skills, meticulous preparation, and fierce determination. While the inherently adversarial nature of litigation is well-suited to his talent for crafting compelling arguments and counterarguments, Fernando also understands that fighting for the sake of fighting is not necessarily conducive to protecting and advancing his clients' interests or achieving optimal outcomes. He views every strategic decision through the lens of what will best accomplish his clients' goals.
Prior to joining Tydings, Fernando gained significant litigation experience, managing an active caseload, drafting dispositive motions and memoranda of law, propounding and responding to written discovery, taking depositions of party witnesses and experts, and conducting legal research.
Appreciating the stress, disruption, and uncertainty that litigation can cause for his clients, Fernando thoughtfully guides them throughout the process, ensuring they are always kept up-to-date about the status of their case and that they understand the approaches and tactical choices being made on their behalf. He believes in using his clear, straightforward communication style to empower his clients with the information they need to make thoughtful decisions.
After graduating from Towson University, Fernando earned his law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. While in law school, he interned for the Honorable Robert McDonald on the Maryland Supreme Court, the NAACP, the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland. He was also a member of the Moot Court Board and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team.
Immediately following law school, Fernando served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Alexander Wright, Judge on the Appellate Court of Maryland, and the Honorable Irene Berger, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia. A Baltimore City native, he is active in several philanthropic and charitable endeavors in his community.
