Rima A. Kikani

"As a fellow professional, I understand that when a health care provider's competence is attacked, it is not just another file on my desk. Appreciating the personal as well as professional implications of such allegations motivates me to make every effort to protect and defend my clients."

Hospitals and medical professionals know that when Rima defends them, she works tirelessly to protect their interests, livelihoods, and reputations. Leveraging her litigation experience, scientific background, and personal commitment, Rima is a persuasive and formidable advocate who recognizes what is at stake for her clients and endeavors to obtain the best outcomes. While Rima's current practice focuses on defending medical malpractice claims, she has significant defense-side experience representing clients in a wide range of tort matters, including general liability, premises liability, products liability, personal injury, insurance coverage, and insurance defense litigation. She has served as lead counsel on trial, appellate, and administrative agency matters, and her work has encompassed all aspects of complex litigation, including first-chairing trials and coordinating favorable settlements.

Rima is particularly effective in understanding her clients' decision-making processes and translating her understanding of medicine into compelling arguments and cross-examinations. She brings a unique background to her practice, having previously worked with a regional acute care facility and completing a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, where her work was published in a prominent scientific journal.

The years she spent as an educator add to Rima's effectiveness as an advocate. She has taught trial and appellate advocacy at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Baltimore School of Law and has given guest lectures on standard of care and informed consent to second-year medical students at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her talent for explaining complex concepts in understandable terms and maintaining the attention of a classroom using compelling narratives serves her clients well when she appears before judges and juries.

Rima is active in several professional organizations and currently serves on the MSBA Board of Governors, President's Executive Committee, and as the Chair of the Young Lawyers' Section. She has been honored by her peers for her work, including multiple recognitions as a Maryland Rising Star in Health Care and Best Lawyers in America – Ones to Watch.
